Ayelabola, a 500-level Computer Science student, began her record-setting walk on October 1 at UNILAG’s indoor sports centre. Initially, her goal was to walk 120km, but she exceeded expectations by covering an additional 10km, ultimately completing 2,058 laps within the venue. This brings her total distance to an impressive 130.62km, marking a new milestone in the world of modeling.
Her journey was not just about achieving a world record but also about promoting inclusivity within the fashion industry. Having been rejected twice by fashion events due to her height, Ayelabola embarked on this mission to challenge stereotypes and inspire models facing similar barriers. She aimed to send a strong message about the need for more diversity and acceptance in the industry, showing that talent and determination should always outshine outdated standards.

Throughout the walk, Ayelabola showcased various designs from Nigerian designers, including creations from the UNILAG Theatre Arts Department. She was supported by 34 other models who joined her to highlight Nigeria’s vibrant fashion scene and promote the country’s tourism. In addition to setting a new personal achievement, Ayelabola surpassed a 41-year-old record set in 1983 by Roberta Brown and Lorraine McCourt in Dublin, Ireland, who had walked 114.4km. Her remarkable distance of 130.62km now awaits official confirmation from Guinness World Records.
